# How to give Hermes Agent a phone number, text and email in New Zealand

**Short answer:** Run hermes mcp add agentline --url https://agentline.nz/mcp --auth oauth, then hermes mcp login agentline to sign in to Agentline NZ, or add an agentline entry under mcp_servers in ~/.hermes/config.yaml. Hermes Agent can then text people from your New Zealand 028 number, read their replies, and send and receive email from your @agentline.nz inbox.

## Before you start

- An Agentline NZ account. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number.
- Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away.
- Hermes Agent installed. It's open source from Nous Research.

## Steps

1. **Add the server.** Run:

   ```bash
   hermes mcp add agentline --url https://agentline.nz/mcp --auth oauth
   ```

2. **Sign in.** Run hermes mcp login agentline and sign in with your Agentline NZ email link.

3. **Test the connection.** Run hermes mcp test agentline. In a running session, use /reload-mcp to pick up the change.

## Config file version

In `~/.hermes/config.yaml`, with OAuth:

```yaml
mcp_servers:
  agentline:
    url: "https://agentline.nz/mcp"
    auth: oauth
```

Or with an API key from **Dashboard → API keys**, stored in `~/.hermes/.env` as `AGENTLINE_KEY`:

```yaml
mcp_servers:
  agentline:
    url: "https://agentline.nz/mcp"
    headers:
      Authorization: "Bearer ${AGENTLINE_KEY}"
```

## Try it

Once it's connected, ask your assistant:

- "Text my mobile when the overnight job finishes."
- "Check my Agentline NZ inbox and draft replies to anything that needs one."

## Good to know

- Hermes uses Streamable HTTP by default for url servers, which is what Agentline NZ uses.
- Keep keys in ~/.hermes/.env, not in config.yaml.
- Standard NZ mobile numbers only (020–029). No landlines, short codes, premium or international numbers.

### Can my assistant send marketing or bulk texts?
