# How are SMS segments counted on Agentline NZ?

**Short answer:** Outbound SMS allowances are counted in segments: 160 characters per segment (153 per part when split), or 70 (67) with emoji or macrons. Inbound SMS and email don't count towards your allowance.

## Monthly allowances

| Plan | Outbound SMS segments | Outbound emails |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 50 | 500 |
| Pro | 200 | 2000 |

Allowances reset on the 1st of each month (NZ time) and don't roll over. When you reach an allowance, sending pauses until next month or until you upgrade. No overage charges without asking.

## Macrons count

A single macron, as in Māori place names, switches the whole message to the 70-character encoding. A 100-character text with one macron uses 2 segments, while the same text without it uses 1. Keep that in mind when your agent writes longer messages.
