# Connect n8n AI agents to a NZ phone number, SMS and email

**Short answer:** In n8n, attach an MCP Client Tool node to your AI Agent node, set its endpoint to https://agentline.nz/mcp and its authentication to Bearer with your Agentline NZ API key. The AI Agent can then text from a New Zealand 028 number, read and send email and wait for one-time codes inside your workflows.

## Before you start

- An Agentline NZ API key from Dashboard → API keys. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number.
- Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away.
- A workflow with an AI Agent node.

## Steps

1. **Add the MCP Client Tool.** On your AI Agent node, add a tool and choose MCP Client Tool.

2. **Set the endpoint.** Enter https://agentline.nz/mcp as the endpoint. If the node shows a transport option, choose the HTTP Streamable option.

3. **Add your key.** Set Authentication to Bearer and create a Bearer credential with your Agentline NZ API key. Header Auth with the name Authorization and the value Bearer followed by your key also works.

4. **Choose tools.** Under Tools to Include, pick All, or Selected to limit the agent to, for example, list_messages and wait_for_code.

5. **Test the workflow.** Run the workflow with a chat message such as: What's my Agentline NZ number?

## Using a tool as a normal workflow step

n8n's newer **MCP Client** node runs one MCP tool as an ordinary step without an AI Agent, which is useful for fixed flows like "send this confirmation text". Set **MCP Endpoint URL** to `https://agentline.nz/mcp`, pick your credential under **Authentication** and choose the **Tool**, for example `send_sms`.

- Use Selected under Tools to Include to keep read-only workflows from sending.
- Transactional and assistant messages only: replies, bookings, confirmations, reminders people asked for, and codes.
