# Give your Grok Bot its own NZ phone number and inbox

**Short answer:** Your Grok Bot can have its own Agentline NZ New Zealand 028 number and @agentline.nz email inbox when you add Agentline NZ as a custom MCP connector at https://agentline.nz/mcp and sign in. It can then text NZ mobiles and read the replies, sign up to services with its own address, and on Pro answer calls with a transcribed voicemail or hand them to a voice agent. It can't phone anyone for you yet, because outbound calls aren't generally available.

## Before you start

- Grok Bot. The [Grok Bot setup guide](/guides/grok-bot) says which xAI and Cursor plans include it.
- An Agentline NZ account. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number. Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away.
- For texting other people, a Starter (NZ$29/month) or Pro (NZ$79/month) plan after the trial converts. For answering calls, Pro.

## Connect Agentline NZ to your Grok Bot

1. **Ask your Bot to add the server.** In a chat with your Grok Bot, say: Add this MCP server: https://agentline.nz/mcp. It's a remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP that signs in with OAuth. This step is based on community guidance, not xAI's docs, so it may change.

2. **Sign in and approve the access.** Follow the Bot's prompt to your browser, sign in to Agentline NZ with your email link and approve the connection. The approval page lists the scopes the Bot asks for, from these three: messages:read to see the number, inbox, messages, calls and codes, messages:send to send texts and email, and offline_access to stay connected. If messages:send isn't listed on the approval page, the Bot can read your texts and email but can't send. Leave messages:send ticked if you want the Bot to text. Without it, the Bot can read but not send, and send_sms tells it to reconnect and allow sending.

3. **Check it's installed.** Open Connect apps from the sidebar and choose Your plugins to confirm Agentline NZ is there. Installed connectors are account-wide, so every Bot on your account can use it.

4. **Attach it and check the number.** In chat, type @ and attach the Agentline NZ connector, then ask the Bot to call get_my_number. It returns the Bot's @agentline.nz address, its 028 number once it's live, your plan, this month's SMS use and any sending restriction.

5. **Give the Bot its rules.** Paste the guardrails from Rules for your Grok Bot below into your chat, so the Bot follows them each time it uses Agentline NZ.

## Grok on grok.com and the keyless server

The Grok chat assistant on grok.com is a separate product with its own Connectors page. xAI's docs say to go to **grok.com/connectors**, click **New Connector**, select **Custom**, enter `https://agentline.nz/mcp` and complete the sign-in.

Agentline NZ also has a keyless MCP server at `https://agentline.nz/public/mcp` that needs no sign-in. It can show pricing, check whether 028 numbers are available, read the docs and create an account, which returns an API key. Nothing on it can send a text or email. xAI's docs don't say whether Grok Bot can send an API key header, so use the OAuth connector at `https://agentline.nz/mcp` for the Bot's own number and inbox.

## Workflow 1: text a NZ business or person and read the reply

1. Tell the Bot who to text and what for, for example "Text Hēmi's Plumbing on 021 123 4567 and ask if they can come Thursday afternoon."
2. The Bot drafts the text and shows it to you. Once you say yes, it calls send_sms with one NZ mobile number and the wording. The carrier doesn't provide delivery receipts, so a sent SMS shows as sent, not delivered.
3. Later, or when you ask, the Bot calls list_messages with contact set to that number and unread_only set to true, tells you what came back, and calls mark_read so the next check only shows new replies. Agentline NZ doesn't push replies to the Bot, so it only sees them when it checks.

**During the trial:** Until you're on a paid plan, your agent can only email or text your own verified email address and mobile number. So the Bot can text you, but not the plumber, until your plan converts. The trial includes 1 number, 1 inbox, 10 SMS segments, 50 emails and no voice minutes.

**On a paid plan**, these limits apply:

| Limit | Starter | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Outbound SMS segments a month | 50 | 200 |
| SMS per minute | 10 | 10 |
| SMS per day | 150 | 150 |
| New SMS recipients per day | 25 | 25 |

160 characters per segment (153 per part when split), or 70 (67) with emoji or macrons. When you reach an allowance, sending pauses until next month or until you upgrade. No overage charges without asking.

**What it can send:** Transactional and assistant messages only: replies, bookings, confirmations, reminders people asked for, and codes. Marketing, promotions, cold texts and bulk texts are blocked. Texts with promotional phrases or link shorteners are rejected before they're sent. Standard NZ mobile numbers only (020/021/022/027/028/029). No landlines, short codes, premium or international numbers. If someone replies STOP, Agentline NZ opts them out and blocks further texts to them. See [Who can my agent text?](/help/who-can-my-agent-text) and [Confirm appointments by text](/use-cases/booking-confirmations-by-text).

## Workflow 2: sign up to services with its own inbox

The Bot's @agentline.nz address works from day one, so it can sign up to newsletters, booking sites and other services without using your personal email.

1. The Bot calls get_my_number to get its address, or its 028 number once it's live if the service verifies by SMS.
2. It fills in the sign-up form with its own details.
3. Straight after submitting, it calls wait_for_code with channel set to email or sms and from_contains set to part of the service's name. wait_for_code waits up to 55 seconds for a one-time code to arrive by SMS or email, then returns it. If it returns found=false, the Bot calls it again. Each code is handed out once.
4. If the service sends a link instead of a code, the Bot calls list_emails with unread_only set to true and opens the message with read_email.

We can't guarantee that every third-party service will accept an Agentline NZ number for verification. Don't use the Bot's address or number as the recovery contact for your bank, IRD or other accounts you can't afford to lose. The full workflow is in [Let your AI agent sign up to services with its own inbox](/use-cases/inbox-for-service-sign-ups).

## Workflow 3: answer inbound calls on Pro

Voice is on the Pro plan only, and isn't included during the trial. We switch voice on for each number once its call routing is connected. The Bot can check with get_voice_settings and, with your go-ahead, change call handling with update_voice_settings.

- **Voicemail with a transcript:** callers hear your greeting and can leave a message of up to 120 seconds. The Bot reads the transcript with list_calls, summarises it for you and can text the caller back if they left a NZ mobile.
- **Forward to a voice agent:** calls ring a SIP voice agent, such as one on ElevenLabs, or your own agent over a wss:// media stream, or a NZ phone. A forwarded call that isn't answered within 25 seconds falls back to your greeting and voicemail, except a stream, which has no fallback.

Pro includes 200 voice minutes a month. See [Answer calls to your agent's 028 number](/use-cases/answer-calls-with-voicemail-or-a-voice-agent) for the modes and settings.

## What it can't do yet

Outbound calls aren't generally available. The tool that places calls is in limited release and isn't part of the standard service, so your Bot won't see it. Even where it's switched on, it only speaks a short message to a NZ mobile, so it can't hold a conversation. **Your Grok Bot can't phone a restaurant to book a table for you today.**

Text the restaurant instead, if it lists a NZ mobile number: the Bot can send a one-off booking request and read the reply, as in Workflow 1. It can't text landlines, which many restaurants use, so for those, book online or call them yourself.

## Rules for your Grok Bot

Agentline NZ checks content and limits, but it can't see every mistake. For example, nothing stops a card number in a text. Paste these rules into your chat with the Bot:

```text
When you use Agentline NZ:
1. Before every send_sms or send_email, show me the recipient and the exact wording, and wait for me to say yes.
2. Text one person at a time. Never send the same message to a list of people.
3. Never put card numbers, bank details, passwords or payment details in a text or email, and never ask anyone to send them.
4. Only send messages people expect: replies, bookings, confirmations and reminders they asked for. No marketing, promotions or cold texts.
5. If someone replies STOP, don't contact them again.
```

## Good to know

- Agentline NZ is an independent New Zealand service. It isn't made by, affiliated with or endorsed by xAI or Cursor; it connects to Grok Bot the same way any custom MCP server does.
- Grok Bot runs on a shared cloud computer and keeps working while you're away, so keep its jobs to messages people expect. See [What we don't allow](/what-we-dont-allow).
- Not for emergency communications. It can't reach 111.

## FAQ

### Can my Grok Bot ring a restaurant to book a table?

Not yet. Outbound calls are in limited release and aren't generally available. If the restaurant lists a NZ mobile, ask the Bot to text it instead and read the reply. It can't text landlines.

### Can my Grok Bot text other people during the trial?

No. Until you're on a paid plan, your agent can only email or text your own verified email address and mobile number. It can text you during the trial, and other NZ mobiles once your Starter or Pro plan converts.

### Does my Grok Bot get told when a reply arrives?

No. Agentline NZ stores every inbound text, email and voicemail, and the Bot reads them when it next checks with list_messages, list_emails or list_calls. Ask it to check, or give it a recurring job that checks.

### Is Agentline NZ part of Grok or xAI?

No. Agentline NZ is an independent New Zealand service that you add to Grok Bot as a custom connector. xAI doesn't make or endorse it.

### What does Agentline NZ cost?

Starter is NZ$29/month and Pro is NZ$79/month, billed in NZ dollars. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number. Agentline NZ is not GST-registered, so no GST is charged.

### How long does it take to get the 028 number?

Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away. Full refund if your number hasn't arrived within 30 days of your first payment.

### Can my assistant send marketing or bulk texts?

No. Transactional and assistant messages only: replies, bookings, confirmations, reminders people asked for, and codes. Marketing, promotions, cold texts and bulk texts are blocked. See [What we don't allow](/what-we-dont-allow).
