# Let your AI agent track deliveries from its own inbox

**Short answer:** Your AI agent can receive order confirmations, shipping notices and courier tracking emails at its own @agentline.nz address, then tell you what's arriving and when, and email the shop if a parcel is late. The inbox works from day one, and an Agentline NZ New Zealand 028 number is optional here: on Starter or Pro it lets the agent text you a heads-up.

## Before you start

- An Agentline NZ account. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number. Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away.
- Until you're on a paid plan, your agent can only email or text your own verified email address and mobile number. So until then the agent can read every update and tell you in chat, but can't email a shop.
- An assistant or agent connected to Agentline NZ. See the [setup guides](/guides).

## Steps

1. **Get the agent's address.** The agent calls get_my_number. It returns its @agentline.nz address and, on Starter or Pro once it's live, its 028 number.

2. **Use the address for orders.** When you or the agent order online, enter the agent's address as the email for order and shipping updates. Keep your own mobile as the delivery phone, so a driver can reach you. If the shop needs an account first, the agent can sign up with its own address; see [Let your AI agent sign up to services with its own inbox](/use-cases/inbox-for-service-sign-ups).

3. **Check for updates.** The agent calls list_emails with unread_only set to true. Each email shows the sender, subject, the first 280 characters and whether it has attachments, which is usually enough to spot an order or shipping notice.

4. **Read the ones that matter.** For each order or shipping email, the agent calls read_email to get the full text, then picks out the shop, the order number, the courier, the tracking number and the expected date, where the email includes them.

5. **Tell you.** The agent sums up what's arriving and when, in chat or in a daily note. On Starter or Pro with a live number, it can text you instead with send_sms. Send the tracking number, not the tracking link: a full tracking URL usually makes the text 2 SMS segments.

   ```text
   Your order from [shop] is out for delivery today. Tracking: [number]. Two other parcels are due Thursday.
   ```

6. **Follow up a late parcel.** If the expected date has passed, the agent drafts a short email to the shop for you to approve, then sends it with send_email, passing reply_to_id so it goes in the same thread as the order confirmation.

7. **Mark updates read.** The agent calls mark_read with the email ids it has dealt with, so the next check with unread_only only shows new mail.

## What the agent can and can't see

| In the email | Can the agent use it? |
|---|---|
| The text, including tracking numbers and dates | Yes, with read_email. Emails sent only as HTML are turned into plain text |
| Links, such as a tracking page | Yes, as text. It follows them only if your assistant can browse |
| Attachments, such as a PDF receipt | It sees each file's name, type and size, but can't open it |
| Emails over 10 MB | They're rejected and don't reach the inbox |

## Texts and calls from couriers

You can give the agent's 028 number to a shop for delivery texts. Those texts show in list_messages, but inbound SMS delivery isn't guaranteed by the carrier, and the agent can only reply to standard NZ mobiles, so it can't answer a text from a short code or a sender name.

Voice is on the Pro plan only, and isn't included during the trial. On Starter, a driver who rings the agent's number won't get through, which is why your own mobile is the better delivery phone. On Pro, calls can ring through to your phone or go to voicemail. We switch voice on for each number once its call routing is connected. See [Answer calls to your agent's 028 number](/use-cases/answer-calls-with-voicemail-or-a-voice-agent).

## Watch for fake delivery messages

Scam messages that pretend to be from a courier and ask for a fee are common. Give the agent a rule: never pay, enter card details or log in from a delivery email or text, and check anything unexpected on the shop's or courier's own website. Agentline NZ's checks cover what your agent sends, not what it receives: it blocks outgoing texts and emails that pair phrases such as "redelivery fee" with a link, or name a courier such as NZ Post with a payment link.

## FAQ

### Does this need a phone number?

No. Order and shipping emails only need the agent's @agentline.nz inbox, which works from day one. A number on Starter or Pro lets the agent text you a heads-up.

### Can the agent change a delivery or rebook it?

Only through the shop or courier. It can email the shop from its own address on Starter or Pro, or follow a link in the email if your assistant can browse. Agentline NZ doesn't connect to couriers.

### Should I use the agent's address for everything I buy?

Use it for orders the agent keeps track of. Don't make it the recovery email for your bank, IRD or other accounts you can't afford to lose.

### What does Agentline NZ cost?

Starter is NZ$29/month and Pro is NZ$79/month, billed in NZ dollars. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number. Agentline NZ is not GST-registered, so no GST is charged.

### How long does it take to get the 028 number?

Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away. Full refund if your number hasn't arrived within 30 days of your first payment.

### Can my assistant send marketing or bulk texts?

No. Transactional and assistant messages only: replies, bookings, confirmations, reminders people asked for, and codes. Marketing, promotions, cold texts and bulk texts are blocked. See [What we don't allow](/what-we-dont-allow).
