Short answer

Add Agentline NZ to Cursor by putting {"mcpServers": {"agentline": {"url": "https://agentline.nz/mcp"}}} in ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project). Cursor supports OAuth for remote MCP servers, so you sign in with your Agentline NZ email link and the agent can then send and read texts from a New Zealand 028 number and use an @agentline.nz inbox.

Before you start

  • An Agentline NZ account. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number.
  • Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away.
  • Cursor installed. On Enterprise, an admin's MCP allowlist may need to include agentline.nz.

Steps

  1. Open your MCP config file. Use ~/.cursor/mcp.json to make Agentline NZ available in every project, or .cursor/mcp.json in a project folder for that project only. Create the file if it doesn't exist.
  2. Add Agentline NZ. Add an agentline entry with the URL. Remote servers in Cursor only need url; there's no type field.
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "agentline": {
          "url": "https://agentline.nz/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  3. Sign in to Agentline NZ. Cursor supports OAuth for servers that require it. When Cursor prompts you to sign in to agentline, follow it, sign in with your Agentline NZ email link and approve access.
  4. Turn it on and test. Check the server is enabled in the MCP section of Cursor's Customize page, then ask the agent: What's my Agentline NZ number?

Using an API key instead

For Cloud Agents or shared machines you can send an API key header instead of OAuth. Create a key under Dashboard → API keys, set it as AGENTLINE_KEY in your environment, and reference it. Cursor supports ${env:NAME} in headers:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "agentline": {
      "url": "https://agentline.nz/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:AGENTLINE_KEY}" }
    }
  }
}

Try it

Once it's connected, ask your assistant:

  • "When the build finishes, text my mobile with the result."
  • "Send the new order-confirmation email template from staging to my Agentline NZ inbox and check how it renders."

Good to know

  • If something goes wrong, Cursor writes MCP logs to the Output panel under MCP Logs.
  • Don't commit a project .cursor/mcp.json that contains an API key. Use ${env:AGENTLINE_KEY} instead.
  • Standard NZ mobile numbers only (020–029). No landlines, short codes, premium or international numbers.

FAQ

Does Agentline NZ work in Cursor Cloud Agents?

Cursor documents an OAuth callback for web and Cloud Agents, so it should work with OAuth. An API key in an environment variable is the simplest option for unattended runs.

Is there an Add to Cursor button?

Cursor supports install links in the form cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=...&config=... with a base64-encoded config. Adding the JSON above does the same thing.

What does Agentline NZ cost?

Starter is NZ$29/month and Pro is NZ$79/month, billed in NZ dollars. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number. Agentline NZ is not GST-registered, so no GST is charged.

How long does it take to get the 028 number?

Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away. Full refund if your number hasn't arrived within 30 days of paying.

Can my assistant send marketing or bulk texts?

No. Transactional and assistant messages only: replies, bookings, confirmations, reminders people asked for, and codes. Marketing, promotions, cold texts and bulk texts are blocked. See What we don't allow.
