Your AI agent can text a customer the reminder they asked for from your Agentline NZ New Zealand 028 number, and if they need to move the appointment, offer new times and confirm the change by text. Agentline NZ doesn't schedule texts, so each reminder goes when your agent or your own scheduler calls send_sms, and until you're on a paid plan the agent can only text your own verified mobile.
Before you start
- A Starter or Pro plan with a live 028 number. Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away.
- Until you're on a paid plan, your agent can only email or text your own verified email address and mobile number. To try this during the trial, verify your mobile in the dashboard (Settings, Your mobile) or, outside the ChatGPT app, ask the agent to call start_owner_phone_verification, then book yourself a test appointment.
- Customers who asked for a reminder when they booked, and their NZ mobile numbers.
- Somewhere the agent can read and update your appointments, such as your booking system or calendar. Agentline NZ only sends and receives the texts.
- An assistant or agent connected to Agentline NZ. See the setup guides, or Integrations if you're building your own agent.
Steps
- Check the number and allowance. The agent calls get_my_number. It returns your 028 number, the SMS segments used this month and any sending restriction, and in clients other than the ChatGPT app, your plan and allowance too. The dashboard always shows them. While the number is still being set up, send_sms returns 409 number_pending.
- Pick who gets a reminder. The agent reads tomorrow's appointments from your booking system or calendar and keeps only the customers who asked for a reminder. Reminders people asked for are allowed; texting everyone on your books is not.
- Send the reminder. At the time you've set, your scheduler or agent calls send_sms with one customer's mobile and the reminder. Say who it's from, the date and time, and how to reply. Ask for 1 or 2 rather than YES or CANCEL (see Replies that are keywords below). The carrier doesn't provide delivery receipts, so a sent SMS shows as sent, not delivered.
Hi Aroha, a reminder from [your business]: your appointment is tomorrow, Thu 5 Nov at 2:30pm. Reply 1 to keep it or 2 to change it. - Read the replies. Later, the agent calls list_messages with unread_only set to true, or with contact set to one customer's number. Agentline NZ doesn't push replies to the agent, so have it check again during the day. read_message fetches a single reply by id.
- Offer new times on a 2. The agent checks your calendar for free slots and texts the customer two or three options, each with its own reply, such as A or B. It's a reply in a conversation the customer started, so it's fine to send.
No problem. We can do Fri 6 Nov at 10:00am (reply A) or Mon 9 Nov at 3:00pm (reply B). - Confirm the new time. When the customer picks a slot, the agent updates the booking and texts a short confirmation. If the reply is something it can't handle, such as a question about price, it tells you instead of guessing.
- Mark replies read. The agent calls mark_read with the ids of the replies it has dealt with, so the next check with unread_only only shows new ones.
- Respect STOP. If the customer replies STOP, Agentline NZ opts them out straight away and texts them a confirmation. After that, send_sms to them returns 403 recipient_opted_out until they text START, so take them off your reminder list.
Replies that are keywords
When a reply is only one of these words (in any case, ignoring a trailing full stop or exclamation mark), Agentline NZ treats it as an instruction and sends an automatic reply:
| Reply | What happens |
|---|---|
| STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, OPTOUT or OPT-OUT | The customer is opted out of texts from your number |
| START, UNSTOP, SUBSCRIBE or YES | The customer is opted back in |
| HELP or INFO | The customer gets a short note about who operates the number and how to opt out |
So a customer who replies just CANCEL to cancel the appointment is opted out of all your texts, including the reschedule options. Ask for 1, 2, A or B instead. A longer reply such as "cancel please" isn't a keyword and reaches the agent as an ordinary message. Every reply, keyword or not, shows in list_messages.
Budgeting texts for reminders
Each reminder is one text, and a reschedule usually adds two or three more, so count on more than one text per customer.
| Limit | Starter | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Outbound SMS segments a month | 50 | 200 |
| SMS per minute | 10 | 10 |
| SMS per day | 150 | 150 |
| New SMS recipients per day | 25 | 25 |
160 characters per segment (153 per part when split), or 70 (67) with emoji or macrons. The example reminder above fits in one segment. When you reach an allowance, sending pauses until next month or until you upgrade. No overage charges without asking. See How are SMS segments counted?.
Keep reminders to reminders
Transactional and assistant messages only: replies, bookings, confirmations, reminders people asked for, and codes. Marketing, promotions, cold texts and bulk texts are blocked. Don't add an offer to a reminder: a text with a phrase such as "special offer", "limited time" or "% off" is rejected with 422 content_marketing, and link shorteners such as bit.ly are blocked. Standard NZ mobile numbers only (020/021/022/027/028/029). No landlines, short codes, premium or international numbers. See What we don't allow.
FAQ
Can Agentline NZ send the reminders on a schedule for me?
No. Agentline NZ doesn't schedule texts. The reminder goes when your agent or your own scheduler calls send_sms, so run the check at the time you want reminders to go out.
How is this different from confirming a booking?
A confirmation goes when the customer books. A reminder goes closer to the day, to customers who asked for one, and can turn into a reschedule. See Confirm appointments by text with your AI agent for the confirmation.
Can the agent remind customers who didn't ask for reminders?
No. Reminders are allowed when people asked for them. Texting customers who didn't is a cold text, which isn't allowed. See Who can my agent text?.
What if the customer calls the number instead of texting?
Voice is on the Pro plan only, and isn't included during the trial. On Starter, ask for replies by text, as the example reminder does. On Pro, calls can go to voicemail or a voice agent. We switch voice on for each number once its call routing is connected. See Answer calls to your agent's 028 number.
What does Agentline NZ cost?
Starter is NZ$29/month and Pro is NZ$79/month, billed in NZ dollars. Start free with an email inbox (no card), or take a 7-day trial of Starter or Pro to get a number. Agentline NZ is not GST-registered, so no GST is charged.
How long does it take to get the 028 number?
Your 028 number is set up within a few days of signup. Your email inbox works straight away. Full refund if your number hasn't arrived within 30 days of your first payment.
Can my assistant send marketing or bulk texts?
No. Transactional and assistant messages only: replies, bookings, confirmations, reminders people asked for, and codes. Marketing, promotions, cold texts and bulk texts are blocked. See What we don't allow.
